This week, DC Entertainment announced the cancellation of two popular shows on its DC Nation block of programming. Both Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series will be ending at the conclusion of their current seasons.
Response from followers of the two shows was understandably less than positive, so yesterday DC Comics released a statement through its online platforms responding to the fans’ concerns.
Reactions to this statement were largely positive in social media metric terms, but those who responded in the comments were a good deal more critical.
DC Animation has been one of the bright spots in a multimedia plan that seems to have little cohesion at present. The studio has developed a solid reputation for putting out high-quality work, including the recently released conclusion of its animated Dark Knight Returns, an adaptation of the Frank Miller classic. The common thread was a request for the company to firmly establish a direction and to clue fans in on as to what that direction might be.
There is a great deal of turmoil at DC Entertainment of late, and the community is clearly anxious to see the studio put the pieces together.
